Poverty is the worst form of violence

Poverty is the worst form of violence Globally, Around 600 million children live in extreme poverty. Having less than enough money means their parents cannot invest in their children such as buying them food, clothes or giving them a roof to live under nor do they have the privilege of going to school or seeing a doctor when sick. Furthermore, when already poor families are hit by sudden unexpected shocks- such as drought, floods, earthquakes, increased prices, famine or by conflict, not only their livelihoods are affected but that of their children are too which in most cases leads to children being pulled out of school and forced to work in order to survive. The world must put children and young people at the heart of its action to reduce poverty; to strengthen the low, insecure and unstable incomes that prevent the children from living, learning and being protected and to stop the transmission of poverty to future generations. Poverty can have a profound impact on a child’s life. Growing up in poverty, a child will face more and different challenges than the challenges children face in middle or upper socio-economic families. In short, poverty can get in the way of a child achieving her full potential. Poverty entails more than the lack of income, its manifestation include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion. On the subject of poverty reduction, it is an ethical, social, political and economic imperative of mankind, root causes of poverty must be addressed, poverty eradication be made mainstream, people centered approach to poverty eradication must be taken as a path while also informing people about this cruel condition that is poverty. As humans we must take part in activities and by helping organizations that are related to the eradication of poverty, economic systems that are human friendly must be encouraged, in short quick action is to be taken if we as humans want to eradicate one of human kind’s deadliest crises.
